For his part, US President Donald Trump posted a message on his Truth Social network, warning speculators to keep oil prices low to avoid damage to all economies.

“Everyone, keep oil prices low! I’m watching you!” Trump warned, adding that failure to do so would mean falling into the hands of the enemy. “Don’t do it!”, he concluded.

The closure of the Strait of Hormuz will have major economic repercussions worldwide, said Kirill Dmitriev, director general of the Russian Direct Investment Fund and special envoy of the Russian President, on Sunday.
