San Antonio, TEXAS.-The Unexpected Arrest of former governor of Tamaulipas TOMAS YARRINGTON. A fugitive from justice in the United States and Mexico. And charged with money laundering and links to organized crime, he was detained in Florence, Italy. Twelve (12) years after that he left office as Governor.
Pupil of ERNESTO ZEDILLO PONCE DE LEON, former president of Mexico has been TOMAS YARRINGTON, who had 12 years in total impunity, until the Italian police with the support of the American police manage to throw the glove.
Mr. YARRINGTON was governor of Tamaulipas from 1999 to 2005, by the PRI. The Same Party of former president ENRIQUE PEÑA NIETO. And he linked it to the Gulf Cartel, the Organized crime group, one of the most powerful, in Mexico.
The Narco-trafficking and Organized Crime unit of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office initiated an investigation against it on 13 July 2012. After four years, in November 2016, the government offered a reward of 15 million pesos (730,000 dollars) for information that would lead to its capture.
Because despite the “wide deployment ” to try to capture him. It had not been able to know his whereabouts, said the Official Gazette of the Federation, to make public the reward. By then the FBI was looking for it, among other crimes, for money laundering and fraud, in December 2013.
Based on the U.S. Indictment, YARRINGTON received payments from drug traffickers operating in the border state, among others, from members of the Gulf Cartel. According to a December 2013 FBI press release allegedly did so in exchange for “letting them operate on a large scale” in their criminal activities.
The American Authorities also link it with various crimes after being Governor: in particular, they accuse it of the traffic of “large quantities of cocaine” of 2007 to 2009 from the port of Veracruz, in the south of Tamaulipas, and of the use of public funds Stolen.
“…YARRINGTON used many masks to play at state and national politics. There is a very commented play: When YARRINGTON made to win to the presidential candidate of the PAN, JOSEFINA VAZQUEZ MOTA with the support of former governor EGIDIO TORRE CANTU, in Tamaulipas. Betrayed to ENRIQUE PEÑA NIETO, who was the presidential candidate of The PRI, in 2012.”
“…Since that time YARRINGTON supports to the PRI-PAN. Only that the dark fame of YARRINGTON reaches to the candidates for deputies of the PRI and the PAN, in the state. So candidates of Governor FRANCISCO GARCIA CABEZA DE VACA go to the path of defeat, on June 2 next.”
“… With that reputation of YARRINGTON being tied to the narco-traffickers. It is almost impossible to win, for the candidates that drive the governor of Tamaulipas, FRANCISCO GARCIA CABEZA DE VACA, because for The People the PRI and The PAN are the same.” According to popular appreciation.
