*** “We Will Defend Our Criteria in Court”: Obrador

MEXICO, City .-After yesterday’s approval, thanks to amparos, of the resumption of pre-operational testing of wind and solar energy projects. President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador pointed out that: “there were acts of corruption in order for private companies to generate clean energy, since “there was even an intention to destroy the CFE”.
In Conference, the president explained that his administration is not against clean energy. But it is against acts of corruption in the electrical industry that affect the national interest.
Referring to clean energy, he said that: “ Public officials and private companies agreed to “concessions, leonine contracts” for the purchase of electricity at high prices and with subsidies.”
“The intention was to destroy the CFE, close its plants, underutilize them, not allow them to generate energy in order to give preference to the private sector, especially the foreign one.”
“In these irregularities, in these acts of corruption, preference was given to these clean energy generation companies against the Commission,” he said.
Lopez Obrador reiterated that his government is working to protect electricity consumption and ensure that it can be offered at fair prices.
“No contract is suspended, no expropriations, no statism, no nationalization of the electricity industry; we are in favor of clean energy,” he said.
The president announced that he had issued instructions to the CFE and the Energy Secretariat to defend the decision not to grant privileges to companies.
“We are going to defend our criteria in the courts,” he said, although, he did not rule out the possibility of opening a dialogue with the companies to reach agreements.
