San ANTONIO, TEXAS.- Amid tensions caused by US President DONALD TRUMP’s stated plans to take over Greenland, eight European countries—all NATO members—have released a joint statement on the situation.
{En medio de las -tensiones causadas- por los planes declarados del presidente de EE.UU., DONALD TRUMP, de -apoderarse- de Groenlandia. Ocho países europeos –todos miembros de la OTAN– han divulgado una declaración conjunta sobre la situación.}
Among the countries that have signed the declaration openly opposing TRUMP’s plans are Denmark, Finland, France(EMMANUEL MACRON), Germany(FRIEDRICH MERZ), the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
{Entre los países que han firmado la declaración oponiéndose abiertamente a los planes de TRUMP se encuentran Dinamarca, Finlandia, Francia(EMMANUEL MACRON), Alemania(FRIEDRICH MERZ), los Países Bajos, Noruega, Suecia y el Reino Unido.}
In the document, they state that, as members of the military bloc, they are committed “to strengthening Arctic security as a shared transatlantic interest.”

In this context, they add that the Arctic Endurance exercise, carried out in Greenland with the participation of just over 30 military personnel from these countries, “responds to this need” and “poses no threat to anyone.”

The countries also denounce that Washington threatened to impose tariffs in retaliation for sending military personnel and point out that such measures “undermine transatlantic relations and carry the risk of a dangerous downward spiral.” “We will continue to maintain a united and coordinated response. We are committed to defending our sovereignty,” they emphasize in the document.

The U.S. president announced that several European countries that “have traveled” to the island “for unknown purposes” will have to pay a 10% tariff on all supplies to the US, starting on February 1. He also warned that tariffs will increase to 25% from June 1, 2026.
