Ciudad de México.–Next Monday the federal government will define the regions and branches of the economy in which activities can be resumed with “sanitary fences” to avoid outbreaks of the Covid-19 epidemic, said President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador.
A Timetable will have to be defined based on identifying which economic activities are viable for resuming activities and in which regions, he said in his daily conference.
He stressed that a scheme similar to a “traffic light” could be adopted, in order to establish green areas, where resumption is possible, because they are regions without contagion and are not in the vicinity of municipalities with a high incidence of coronavirus. Yellow, where there is little incidence of contagion, and red, where the situation is so intense that it would not allow a return to activities.
He said: “ that at the same time, construction work is expected to begin next week on three sections of the Mayan Train, which would generate 30,000 jobs per section.”
Speaking about the actions in economic matters, the president said that the jobs generated in the construction of the Felipe Angeles airport, the transisthmic train -which, he said, has already begun-, the Dos Bocas refinery and the rehabilitation of refineries must also be counted, for which twelve billion will be allocated in the latter.
During the press conference, he commented that a commitment was made that to the extent that Mexican migrants in the United States send remittances — $4 billion dollars in March, and there is news, he said, that it will be a similar behavior in April — the government will allocate the same amount to support the popular economy, as the three million credits that are intended to be granted to the popular economy.
He reported on a meeting he held with Treasury Department officials who informed him that sufficient resources will be available to finance this plan and the social programs during the next three months, which is when the economy needs to be injected with more resources to shore it up.
Lopez Obrador included in these actions the social programs that have already been carried out since last year. Such as Sowing Life, pensions for the elderly and scholarships.
