Mexico, City.- President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador indicated this Thursday that the return to educational activities throughout the country would be as of June 1.
Mr. OBRADOR explained that on May 17, the municipalities with low or no transmission of COVID-19 will restart these activities, while in the rest of the large cities it will be until later.
On May 17, these municipalities will return to normal, that is, return to classes, to all productive and social activities (…) In the rest of the country, this includes, of course, the big cities, which are the most affected, the resumption of educational and productive activities will be from June 1,” he said.
However, Mr. Obrador stressed that this will only be the case if healthy distance measures are maintained and complied with to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
He Noted that next Tuesday the Ministry of Public Education will announce what will be the reordering of the school calendar, how the lost time will be recovered and how the holidays will be rescheduled.
Based on follow-up to the detection of confirmed cases and projections based on specialists in epidemiological mathematics, the Ministry of Health determined a classification of high, medium and low diffusion of the Covid-19 epidemic in the country.
With this reference, 979 municipalities were determined where the low incidence could raise the Healthy Distance Day on May 17 and not on May 30 as planned for the whole country.
According to the risk map prepared by the Health Secretariat for the administration of the risk of attention to the epidemic, there are 463 municipalities or cities in which the risks are high due to the population concentration that affects the speed of the dispersion of the disease, as explained by the Undersecretary of Health Hugo Lopez-Gatell.
At the same time, there are 1,021 municipalities where, although, they have a low incidence so far, their geographical location adjacent to territories with high incidence increases their risk level.
In the regional list, the states with the highest proportion of municipalities at risk are Baja California, Mexico City, Coahuila, State of Mexico, Morelos, Nuevo Leon, Jalisco, Tabasco, among others.
On the case of Mexico City, the 16 municipalities identified have a high incidence of Covid-19 dissemination, as do half of the Mexican municipalities, particularly those located in the metropolitan area of Mexico City. In Baja California, it mainly covers the municipalities of Mexicali and Tijuana.
