San Antonio, TEXAS.- In the records of the History of Argentina there is a -black episode- that was extremely painful for the people: The Dictatorship of RAFAEL VIDELA. The one that caused -deaths, kidnappings, disappearances- and all kinds of repression from 1976 to 1983.

In the iconic ‘Square of May’, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, they remembered the beginning of VIDELA’s -Genocide- 49 years ago. Human Rights organizations, trade unions, political parties and social movements marched to present the demands of the people.

ELIA ESPEN, from Mothers of Plaza de Mayo Founding Line, ESTELA DE CARLOTTO, president of Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo, ADOLFO PEREZ ESQUIVEL, Nobel Peace Prize winner, and TATY ALMEIDA (Mothers of Plaza de Mayo) were the speakers, set up with their backs to the Casa Rosada.

As stated the organizers, 400,000 people attended the march for the “Day of Memory, Truth and Justice”, which took up the entire Plaza de Mayo and the surrounding streets, and vindicated the figure of 30,000 -disappeared people- questioned by President JAVIER MILEI.

In Buenos Aires, together with the Grandmothers and Mothers of Plaza de Mayo, tens of thousands of people -marched- last Monday. Under the slogan “Memory, truth and justice” 49 years after the coup d’état, which was the last military dictatorship in Argentina.

To the cry “Mothers of the Plaza, the people embrace you”. Numerous people greeted the passing of members of this organization who are still searching for their children who disappeared during the military regime of RAFAEL VIDELA.
{Al grito “Madres de la Plaza, el pueblo las abraza”. Numerosas gentes saludaron el paso de integrantes de esa organización que todavía buscan a sus hijos desaparecidos durante el régimen militar de Rafael Videla. }
Human rights organizations put the number of disappeared at 30,000. Meanwhile, the Grandmothers of Plaza de Mayo are searching for some 400 children who were stolen at birth during the clandestine captivity of their mothers.
{Organismos de derechos humanos cifran en 30.000 los desaparecidos. Mientras las Abuelas de Plaza de Mayo buscan a unos 400 niños que fueron robados al nacer durante el cautiverio clandestino de sus madres.}
“We need all of society to find them all, it’s never too late,” stressed Estela de Carlotto, president of the Grandmothers of May, one of the speakers at the event.”

“In this long struggle we have resolved 139 cases. Just two months ago they restored the identity of a grandson and granddaughter who had never suspected their origin.”

“The State must guarantee the restitution of granddaughters and grandsons,” she added. “The appropriation is an enforced disappearance and until the true identity is not known. It is still being committed.”

“Among the crowd, posters abounded“ against the denialism of the right-wing government ”of Javier Milei, whose iron-fisted economic adjustment decimated dozens of jobs in the Human Rights secretariat and in the memory sites where prisons and torture centers once operated.”

“MILEI, GARBAGE, YOU ARE THE DICTORSHIP”, chanted the demonstrators with Argentine flags and handkerchiefs with the legend: Never again. Amidst great enthusiasm to continue demanding their social petitions.

PEREZ ESQUIVEL, already with the reading of the agreed text, criticized the Government for “the destruction of public health” and called for the “defense of public, free and secular education”. He also called for the cessation of “the militarization of the territories” and for respect for the native peoples.

TATY ALMEIDA said that “MILEI and [Victoria] Villarruel pretend to deny the genocide” and exclaimed: “Enough genocide denialism and apologism! After another intervention by the female speakers, who called for “Free Palestine”.

They also called for an end to the “layoffs of public and private sector workers”, for an increase in pensions and for “justice for Pablo Grillo”. The photographer injured by a tear gas projectile during the march for retirees last March 12. “Out with Bullrich, repeal of the unconstitutional anti-picketing protocol!” they said.

Judgments and criticisms previously exposed against the Argentine Government and President JAVIER MILEI were formalized in a public document, delivered to the Argentine people and to the national and international media by the participants in the MEMORIAL DAY MARCH.
