San ANTONIO, TEXAS.- U.S. President DONALD TRUMP threatened to strike the Iranian island of Kharg again, a key hub for the Islamic Republic’s oil industry. “The island of Kharg is out of commission, except for the pipelines that I left there.”

{El presidente de EE.UU., Donald Trump, amenazó con atacar de nuevo la isla iraní de Jarg, clave para la industria petrolera de la república islámica.”La isla de Jarg está fuera de servicio, salvo por las tuberías que dejé ahí.}

“I didn’t want them to attack the pipelines because, you know, it will take years of work to build them,” the president said Monday in a telephone interview with PBS News after the U.S. attacked the island last Saturday

{No quise que atacaran las tuberías porque, ya sabes, llevará años de trabajo montarlas”, dijo  el mandatario este lunes en entrevista telefónica con PBS News después de que EE.UU. atacara la isla el sábado pasado.}

According to the media, TRUMP warned that he would strike Jarg again. “I told them straight out: ‘I’m going to beat the crap out of them,’” the president said. He also claimed to have ordered that the area within approximately 100 meters of the island’s oil infrastructure not be bombed. “The attack didn’t even come close,” he added, while emphasizing that it would take a great deal to rebuild the infrastructure in that area.

{Según los medios, TRUMP advirtió que volvería a atacar Jarg. “Se los dije abiertamente: ‘Voy a darle una paliza’”,manifestó  el mandatario.Afirmó también haber ordenado no bombardear las cercanías de la infraestructura petrolera de la isla en un radio aproximado de 100 metros. “Ni siquiera se acercó [el ataque]”, añadió, a la vez que subrayó que se necesita mucho para reconstruir la infraestructura en esa zona.}

Israel and the United States launched a joint attack against Iran in the early hours of Saturday, February 28, with the stated aim of “eliminating threats” from the Islamic Republic.

{Israel y EE.UU. iniciaron una agresión conjunta contra Irán la madrugada del sábado 28 de febrero con el objetivo declarado de “eliminar las amenazas” de la República Islámica.}

DONALD TRUMP.

The bombings killed Ayatollah ALI KHAMENEI  , and several high-ranking military officials. MOJTABA KHAMENEI, the son of the late Iranian Supreme Leader, was chosen as his successor.

{Los bombardeos causaron la muerte del Ayatolá ALÍ JAMENEÍ y de varios altos cargos militares. MOJTABA JAMENEÍ, hijo del fallecido líder supremo iraní, fue elegido como su sucesor.}

In response to the offensive, Tehran has launched numerous waves of ballistic missiles and drones against Israel and against U.S. bases in Middle Eastern countries.

{En respuesta a la ofensiva, Teherán ha lanzado numerosas oleadas de misiles balísticos y drones contra Israel  y contra bases estadounidenses en países de Oriente Medio.}

It also almost completely blocked the Strait of Hormuz, a maritime route through which about 20% of all the oil traded worldwide passes. The situation has sent crude oil prices soaring.

{Asimismo, bloqueó casi por completo el estrecho de Ormuz, ruta marítima por donde circula alrededor de 20 % de todo el petróleo, que se comercia en el mundo. La situación ha disparado los precios del crudo.}

The new supreme leader addressed the nation for the first time since his appointment in a message in which he vowed to avenge every death suffered by the Iranian people. He also described continuing to block the Strait of Hormuz as “essential,” while asserting that opening other fronts is being considered “where the enemy has little experience and will be extremely vulnerable.”

{El nuevo líder supremo se dirigió a la nación por primera vez desde su nombramiento, a través de un mensaje en el que promete vengar cada una de las muertes sufridas por el pueblo iraní. Además, calificó de “fundamental” seguir bloqueando el estrecho de Ormuz, al tiempo que aseveró que se sopesa abrir otros frentes “donde el enemigo tiene poca experiencia y será extremadamente vulnerable”.}

Meanwhile, Washington continues to claim that it is winning the conflict and that the offensive will end “very soon,” since “there is nothing left to attack.” For their part, the Iranian Armed Forces reported more than 50 waves of attacks against the perpetrators of the aggression.

{Mientras tanto, Washington sigue afirmando que está ganando el conflicto y que la ofensiva terminará “muy pronto”, ya que “no queda nada que atacar”. Por su parte, las Fuerzas Armadas iraníes informaron de más de 50 oleadas de ataques contra los artífices de la agresión.}

According to Axios, due to the blockade of oil shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, the U.S. faces a greater risk of becoming entangled in the conflict. DONALD TRUMP would be unable to withdraw the United States from the military operation it launched against Iran.

{Según Axios, debido al bloqueo del tránsito del petróleo por el estrecho de Ormuz, EE.UU. corre un mayor riesgo de quedar atrapado en el conflicto. DONALD TRUMP no podría retirar a Estados Unidos del operativo militar que emprendió contra Irán.}

Even if it wanted to, as long, as the maritime transport of oil from the Persian Gulf countries remains blocked, AXIOS reports, citing a source familiar with the situation.

{Incluso si así lo quisiera, mientras el tránsito del petróleo de los países del golfo Pérsico por mar permanezca bloqueado, reporta AXIOS citando a una fuente al tanto de la situación.}

Tehran closed the Strait of Hormuz, which connects the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman, following the U.S.-Israeli attack, banning all vessels from passing through and asserting that “not a single drop of oil” would leave the region by sea.

{Teherán cerró el estrecho de Ormuz, que conecta al golfo Pérsico con el de Omán, tras la agresión estadounidense-israelí, prohibiendo el paso a todo tipo de embarcaciones y aseverando que de la región no saldrá “ni una sola gota de petróleo” por mar.}

The blockade of this strategic strait, through which about one-fifth of the world’s oil flows, sent crude oil prices soaring. On March 9, the price per barrel experienced historic volatility: it surpassed $100 and neared $120 in the early hours of the day. This Monday, Brent futures rose again and traded above $104 per barrel, a level not seen since July 2022.

{El bloqueo de este estratégico estrecho, por donde circula alrededor de una quinta parte del petróleo mundial, disparó los precios del crudo. El 9 de marzo, el precio del barril experimentó una volatilidad histórica: superó los 100 dólares y rozó los 120 en las primeras horas de la jornada. Este lunes, los futuros del Brent han vuelto a aumentar y cotizaron por encima de 104 dólares por barril, un nivel no visto desde julio de 2022.}

“TRUMP could withdraw tomorrow. But the Iranians could keep the Strait of Hormuz closed and drive up oil prices so much that the U.S. would be forced to resume intervention,” Axios writes in another article published on Monday.

{“TRUMP podría retirarse mañana. Pero los iraníes podrían mantener cerrado el estrecho de Ormuz y elevar los precios del petróleo tanto que EE.UU. se vería obligado a retomar la intervención”, escribe Axios en otro material de este lunes.}

While the U.S. president is striving to break the Iranian naval blockade, he risks becoming further entangled in the conflict, the outlet reports, citing a senior Trump administration official.

{Al tiempo que el presidente estadounidense se esfuerza por romper el bloqueo marítimo iraní, corre el riesgo de quedar más atrapado en el conflicto, señala el informe, citando a un alto funcionario de la Administración TRUMP.}
