The Press of the Slavic country reports on 7 Feb 2025 that Dzerzhinsk, in the Donetsk People’s Republic, was one of the most important cities for the defense of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, that control for ten years.
The Russian Defense Ministry reported on Friday about the liberation of the city of Dzerzhinsk, located in the Donetsk People’s Republic. The agency said the town -renamed Toretsk in Ukraine in 2016- was liberated, “as a result of active offensive actions” of Russian troops.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces had controlled Dzerzhinsk since 2014 and turned it into a stronghold that served as a key element of its defense. The city has a developed railway network and was used by the Kiev military to launch constant attacks on Gorlovka.
The liberation of Dzerzhinsk not only makes it possible to protect Gorlovka from these bombardments, but also opens the way for a further offensive of the Russian Army in the northwest direction, towards the city of Konstantinovka.
